friendship
after bereavement (FAB)
Friendship
After Bereavement is a group that evolved
after several people who had been counselled by Listening
Ear found that they needed some continuing
support.
It
was recognised that some people needed a friendly, informal,
meeting place where member could support each other and the
bereavement support group, now known as FAB
was formed.
Meetings
are very informal, some members chat about how the month has
gone and problems are often shared, although there is no obligation
on anyone to talk or share experiences, if they choose not to.
It
is a group that is growing in popularity and members have enjoyed
several days out together during summer and Christmas. Some
members have also started to socialise between meeting - again
this is a personal choice, with no requirement at all.
There
is no membership fee and the common bond is that everyone in
the group has experienced bereavement. The beneficial thing
is that people can share feelings and ways of coping with their
loss.
It
is recognised that everyone deals with bereavement differently.
It is a journey that no-one chooses to be on, but by sharing
together members of the group can and do find that they can
manage their loss better.
FAB
meets on the last Thursday of the month from 1.30pm to 3.30pm
at St Nicholas Centre, Halewood.
