what
service users say
Many
service users report of a positive 'life changing' impact: from
their sessions at Listening
Ear.
Friendship
After Bereavement
Maureen
Holmes first came to
Listening Ear in April 1999.
Her
GP referred her after the death of her husband Gordon, which
she describes as 'the most devastating time of my life'. Maureen
received counselling to help her through the first few difficult
months of her loss.
She
now helps run the Friendship After Bereavement
support group, where those suffering the loss of
a loved one come along to a weekly session with others who are
at various stages of the grieving process. Feelings are shared,
very often with tears, and the common denominator is that it
is seen to be very normal and natural to grieve.
Maureen
was so grateful for the help and support that she had received
that she arranged a Coffee Day at her own home to raise funds.
The day was a great success with over 100 people coming and
going at various times throughout the day. £240 was raised for
Listening Ear
funds.
In
a press article published after the event the
Listening Ear
Co-ordinator Debbie Helsby said:
'This
has been a very special day. It is lovely to see so many people
here to support Maureen and to raise funds for the much needed
services that Listening
Ear
provides. I am especially delighted to see all the people here
from the Bereavement Support Group.'

Butterflies
A
lady who brought her two children to Butterflies
after they had experienced a series of
four deaths in the family reported in a letter of thanks how
they had benefited.
Her
daughter said: 'It has helped me understand that
the way I dealt with the deaths in the family was OK and that
that was the way I grieve.'
Her
son said: 'It’s as if someone is taking this
heavy weight off your shoulders and putting it to one side bit
by bit.'
