what is reflective listening?

Reflective Listening is a form of active listening that allows the client to unburden the difficulties they are experiencing.

Along with reflecting back what has been said, it also incorporates some key questions associated with the main issue being presented, the action that can be taken in connection with this and an exploration of how the client feels at the end of the session.

It is a tried and tested way of supporting troubled people and it is extremely popular with Listening Ear service users.

Listeners are fully trained and assessed before taking clients and as with everyone at Listening Ear volunteers are vetted at the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) to an enhanced level.
